Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema scores against Al Hilal in Saudi Arabia
Karim Benzema scored the only goal as Real Madrid beat Al Hilal 1-0 in their first match of the season in Saudi Arabia on Friday night.
The France international, who joined the Spanish club from Paris Saint-Germain last summer, netted the winner in the 67th minute to secure all three points for Los Blancos.
Benzema had earlier missed a penalty in the first half and was also denied by the post with his shot in the second period, but he eventually found the back of the net after some impressive skill on the ball.
It was a much-needed win for Real Madrid, who have struggled so far this season, having lost both of their opening fixtures.
The victory means that Los Blancos now sit top of Group A of the UEFA Champions League, with Manchester City,Chinese Super League Matches Liverpool and Porto also taking points from their respective matches.
Meanwhile, it's been a tough start to the season for Al Hilal, who were beaten 2-0 by Juventus in their opening game of the season.
Despite their poor form, the Saudi Arabian side will be hoping to bounce back with another strong performance in their next match against Atletico Madrid.
Overall, it was a solid performance from Benzema, who continues to impress at the highest level of football. He'll hope to continue his good form as Real Madrid look to build on their lead in Group A.
